Description

Radical Rain is a multiplayer versus game.
You need to protect your flames and yourself from the heavy rain that destroy everything in it's path.
Or maybe switch the panels to remove the covers of your rivals ?

Challenges

48h to make a game with this theme "What Home means to you"

As the game was multiplayer, it was a challenge that both player learn the rules and the controls fast enough so that they can focus on decision making improve their skills.

I also had 2 to 3 hours to integrate the level design at the end of production before the end of the game jam.

Qualities
  • It was nice making multiple levels.
    The project was clean enough so that implementing levels was easy and fast. Many levels could have been made

  • Easy to learn

  • Controls are simple, only the left joystick !
    So playable on one keyboard or on one controller

  • Players always play multiples maps and seems to always show that they can beat the others 

Defaults
  • The feedbacks for the orientation of the rain and when does it strikes can be confusing

  • We should have make the choice that the players won't get kill when the rain hit them so the protection of the fires would be the main focus.

  • It is rare that two players of different levels stay alive enough time to see multiple rain attack in the same level

  • Adding a score would have been great

  • Organising the brainstorm session to get the macro design that will suit the theme of the GGJ and that the team enjoy working on 
  • Creation of the macro design, rules and main gameplay
  • Tweak of the elements and the player character
  • Integration of gameplay elements

Level Design
  • Level design prototypes on paper for levels
  • Integration of levels in unity
  • Tweak of the levels 

Quality Assurance
  • Gameplay testing for tweaking

  • Level design testing and analyze of global game flow​
